New Term Tips (from ManwaringMusic)
There's an(other!) great blog post from James Manwaring, Director of Music for the Windsor Learning Partnership in the UK. He blogs online at manwaringmusic.blog and, in addition to this current post that I'm re-blogging, you should really check out all his other stuff!
His most recent post suggested 10 tips for the new term and, from someone so experienced, they're not to be sniffed at. As I mentioned, please check out the original post but for starters here's a brief summary of the 10 tips:
Be visible to the new year group at assemblies so you don't leave the music advertising up to someone else.
Invite new students to a lunchtime gathering in the music room to find out about what's going on.
'Go to them!' - be as present as possible (throughout the school) so that students can ask questions directly.
Organise a welcome meeting for all students and parents ASAP.
Organise to have music playing at the first main whole school assembly
Tidy the music room!
Start rehearsals from day 1.
Use #socialmedia to engage student and parents from day 1.
Email parents all the information they need to get lessons sorted.
Encourage older students to engage the newer, younger students.
